The TAP project ET-ASSIST has developed an Internet Medical Assistance Service - e.MEDICAL TM.

This is an on-line service, and integrates a downloadable shareware to view digital SCP-ECG (Standard Communications Protocol - ElectroCardioGram) records, a portable telemedicine workstation (hardware and software) for remote sites (e.g. oil platform, remote plant), the MEDICO software for medical advice centres and an open standardised integrated medical record system for primary healthcare centres called "Integrated Primary Healthcare Centre Information System (IPHCIS)".

e.MEDICAL TM is a ready to use service that links the healthcare provider community network with the assistance community in a secure, efficient and standard way. By standardising the workflow between assistance companies and hospitals, it saves costs for both parties and reduces risks for the patients throughout the repatriation process. Family doctors can access the service according to necessity and patients' wishes. The directory enables immediate and up-to-date access to validated information about the hospitals or about the assistance companies involved in an assistance case. Registered hospitals have a direct and free of charge access to the service.

The intuitive ergonomic interface and the on-line demonstrator reduce the training period. The Tentelemed HealthSuite TM in which e.Medical TM is included, provides additional services, such as a second opinion for difficult cases. For the assistance companies, subscription to e.Medical TM is the guarantee of efficient access to the Tentelemed HealthNetwork TM of hospitals worldwide and provision of a better service to its customers. The light telemedecine workstation, which offers a satellite communication capability, is an extension designed for the remote locations with expatriate professionals. It enables assistance companies to reinforce their medical assistance service to the expatriate employees of multinational companies (oil platforms, large building works, remote resorts or plants, ships).

e.MEDICAL TM platform software mainly consists of 3 sub-systems:
- the Healthcare Provider sub-system, the Assistance sub-system and the Service Provider sub-system.

The Service Provider sub-system consists among others of a JAVA application server (Silverstream) for the client's software, and for archiving and importation agents, a WEB applications server, an Oracle database server for the recording of system information and user information, a centralised LDAP directory service federating all users of the service, an administration and management interface, electronic mail and domain name servers, a X 509 certificates server. The data architecture for patient medical record archiving is compliant with SCP-ECG and DICOM standards, as well as with CEN/TC251 standards for the Electronic Patient Record Architecture.

The portable telemedecine workstation consists of:
ECG Recorder, Electronic Stethoscope, Digital Camera, Automatic Blood Pressure Arm-band, Pulse Oxymeter, Infrared sensor thermometer, Glycemic test, Portable PC, Dedicated software, GSM or Inmarsat M phone, Transportation Suitcase.

The e.Medical TM service is operated and commercialised by the Tentelemed consortium. The other modules are can be purchased either via the Tentelemed consortium or by contacting their respective providers directly. All brands are protected, as is the software source code.
